Clutch Situations

This past weekend, I watched the 3A boys and girls state basketball games. It gave me an idea of what I could do for my next life lesson.
I remember when I was younger, I would go into my driveway and practice foul shots over and over. I would make different scenarios, but all of them would include me playing for state and being at the line to win the game. Even in high school about 4 times a week, I would still practice the screaming fans, riled up coaches, being exhausted physically and mentally... all of it!
Well when one of my scenarios actually came true, my mom was in the stands about to have a heart attack. She thought it was too much pressure to put on a 18 year old girl. My brothers turned to her and said, "Mom! She's fine!! Think of all the times she was in the driveway practicing this exact shot and what it would be like. She's waited for this day as long as she can remember."
In life, we are often thrown crazy and intimidating balls our way. If we aren't prepared for the worst or the scariest, we could choke and lose all we had ever wanted. We need to keep a mentality that we can handle whatever comes our way and be prepared. Don't think everything will come easy and you'll win without ever putting up a fight. So when that day comes, you can be ready to take it on and receive the "trophy" in the end. As a wise friend once told me. . . "It is how you handle to "ball" in "clutch" situations that separates the good from the great!!"

Don't Step Over Those Socks

This life lesson comes from a story that happened about 2 years ago. My older sister was just diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, and our family was having a difficult time adapting to the changes that had to occur. When she moved back to her own house several months after being diagnosed, it was hard for her to do the little things like housework.
One day as she was sitting on the ground folding laundry and mating socks, her relief society presidency came to her door. They were very nice and willing to help. However, when they walked in the door, they stepped right over her unmated socks to sit on the couch. They just kept saying, "What can we do for you? We will do anything! Dinners, babysit your kids, anything!"
My mom and I were there to make dinner, play with the kids, and take care of my sister. It was the little things she needed help with like mating the socks.
The relief society had great intentions but, just like all of us, they forgot to look at the little things.
Let us not "step over the socks" while keeping our eye on the bigger picture. You never know what influence the little things could have on a person!

Using Facebook and Google to our advantage. . . Or Not!

So recently I've come across quite the eye opening experiences with using Facebook and Google. I have heard of this before, but I've never had to think about it in my own life. I have heard of people applying for jobs and when the employee Google's their name, they are not pleased with what comes up. . . or when found on Facebook, there is inappropriate behavior shown. I never have been concerned with this until recently my dad's coworker has been trying to line me up with her son. Apparently, they looked me up on Facebook and there wasn't anything inappropriate or tasteless pictures of me. She actually called my mom and thanked her. . . weird I know. But it really just opened my eyes to who is watching us and why it's important to keep a good image of yourself on Social Networks. You never know what it could bring :)

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY

As today is Valentines Day, I wanted to find a quote or something that could give us a good spirit on this day of love :) So I found this one by Martin Luther King Jr.

"We must develop and maintain the capacity to forgive. He who is devoid of the power to forgive is devoid of the power to love. There is some good in the worst of us and some evil in the best of us."

May you all love and forgive this Valentines Day!!

Quote of the Week!!

This quote comes from my mother once more. . . I was extrememly stressed last week and I wished I had some control over some things that may/may not happen in my life. One day while on the phone with her, she told me about this quote she had heard. "Don't worry. Just breathe. If it's meant to be, it'll find its way!" Loved it!! So I thought I'd share with all of you :)

As We Are Now

Today's lesson came to me while having lunch with a close friend of mine. He was telling me how he can't stand judgemental people. For instance, when people say "I can't believe she/he is marrying him/her. He will never change." We talked about how us as human beings will judge. It is part of our nature. However, that doesn't mean people can't change. It reminded me of something I learned as a little girl. When we judge, remember to add to the end of it "As they are now." We aren't perfect. . . none of us! But there is always room for change :) This is just as we are now! Thank goodness!!! :)
